A 1798 mill complex requiring structural repairs, new slate roofs, new windows, and cleaning and repairing of brickwork and rebuilding missing storeys.
After carrying out numerous samples to this Grade 2 listed complex, it was agreed the most sympathetic approach was to use a low pressure controlled wet abrasive system to the external fabric, and a low pressure abrasive system of varying MOH values for the internal brickwork, timber and steel.
"The issues facing Burnaby at Murrays’ Mills were both sensitive and complex. Internally there was 200 years of accumulated soft lime wash on brickwork and timber. Externally there were large areas of cementitious, oil-based and bituminous paints as well as atmospheric pollution. These were successfully removed without damaging the original finishes, delivering a standard of cleaning that is both consistent and excellent."

A Victorian textile mill in need of refurbishment.
The external brickwork was cleaned using a low pressure wet abrasive clean and then a total re-point. Replacement of nineteen stone heads and fourteen stone cills.
Internal paint removal from brickwork and internal timber cleaning.
Cast Iron columns abrasively cleaned and primed.
"I was delighted by the quality of workmanship provided by Burnaby during the restoration of Unique Mill, Rochdale. It was a pleasure to work with such a proactive team on arguably the most important / difficult aspect of the mill's conversion."
